Photos and Animated .gif disappear in Open Office Impress

I use Open Office on Windows 8.

When I create Presentation using Impress, I insert photos and animated .gifs.

However, if I move that Impress presentation, or delete the referring photos and animated gifs, all the multimedia disappears from Impress.

I even emailed myself a copy of the Impress presentation and all the photos and animations have disappeared.

How on Earth do I fix this?

I have an online presentation to give in about a week, and I wish to give a copy of the Impress presentation to viewers, which includes the animations, rather than exporting to static .pdf.

Please help!!!!!

  • When you say you email them to yourself, are you viewing them on a different computer or they don't even show up on the same computer? –  MC10 Aug 18, 2015 at 15:01
  • @MC10 Both. When I email them to myself and open on different computer, the graphics in the presentation disappear. And in the original computer, if I delete the original clipart folder, the graphics in the presentation disappear. –  Rhonda Aug 18, 2015 at 15:12
  • 1 Make sure the images are embedded, not linked . –  MC10 Aug 18, 2015 at 15:15
  • @MC10 Gonna try this –  Rhonda Aug 18, 2015 at 15:18
  • @MC10 Thank you so much, it works! –  Rhonda Aug 19, 2015 at 14:28

You probably have the pictures linked, instead of embedded . When you insert them, make sure the Link checkbox is not ticked. If they are linked, you will still need the source file or they will disappear as you said. If you embed them, they no longer need the source files.

Linked

If you have already added them and they are linked, don't worry. There is a way to remove the links. Go to the Edit menu and then Links... .

Edit, Links

If links exist, you can select Break Link , and that will remove the link and embed your image.

Break Link

RPG wrote: Hello I think : when you compress all the pictures your presentation is more stable. Select the picture and then right click. Choose compress. You can also compress the picture before you use them in the presentation. Keep a copy of the originals. Romke

COMMENTS

  1. [Solved] Photos disappearing

Firstly, make your presentation in .odp format - use your own laptop with installed OpenOffice or a USB stick with a portable version of OpenOffice for the actual presentation. To avoid loss of pictures, in Oo use /Tools /Options /Load-Save : General tab, and uncheck (turn off) "Save AutoRecovery information every ..."

  2. Apache OpenOffice Community Forum

Images disappear leaving icon of 3 squares and dots. I just did a Google search "Images missing in Impress presentation" and came to an older discussion that is NOT at all helpful. It says the problem was fixed in AOO 4.1.1. Well it wasn't.

  3. Apache OpenOffice Community Forum

The pictures disappear randomly from my presentation although I've been regularly minimizing it. I'm using OpenOffice 4.1.4 on a new Windows 10 Dell Desktop machine with 16 GB RAM. The photos I'm inserting are all JPGs. The Minimize Presentation has been defaulting to a .POT extension and the exported POT duplicate has a file size of about 28 MB.

  4. Apache OpenOffice Community Forum

If you use the "Break Links" function there, and the computer is connected to the Internet, then Impress will download the images and store the image data within the presentation document it won't need any Internet access after that.

  5. Images disappear from Impress

Images disappear from Impress. I'm using OpenOffice 4.1.7 and I'm working on a presentation in "Impress" and my images keep disappearing leaving a blank image with three cubes in red, orange and blue. This happens super randomly. Re-adding the images doesnt help.

  7. Pictures keep disappearing.

Scroll down or search for href="". You will find that for the missing pictures, the name of the inserted file is missing. I don't know why that happened or what you did to get that effect. You can delete the frames holding the missing pictures and insert them again, then test if that works.
